Synopsis:
Many people are exposed to critical life events and potentially traumatic events at some point in their lives. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe and ongoing reaction after exposure to traumatic events. Symptoms usually start soon after the traumatic event or may not happen until months or years later. Sometimes they come and go, over many years.
There is increasing attention to immediate and long-term mental health consequences and related services to direct and indirect victims of psychological trauma.
Professor Catherine Tang will explain PTSD symptoms and their negative consequences; who's likely to experience it and how to cope with it.
