Welcome to the Official Website of the Singapore Psychological Society

Our Website is work in Progress. We apologise for any inconvenience that you may experience.

The Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) was founded on 20 January 1979, and has as its aim the advancement of psychology as a science and as a profession in Singapore

On Psychology Programmes Accedited and/or Recognised by the Singapore Psychological Society

Recently, there have been a number of educational institutions that have claimed that their psychology programmes are recognised and/or accredited by the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS). It should be noted that contrary to these claims the SPS does not accredit psychology programmes. Neither has the SPS lent its name to any institution in recognition of any psychology programmes. Hence members of the public are advised to ignore such claims made by any instititution. Any information regarding the authenticity of psychology programmes will be considered on a case by case basis, in tandem with applications for membership with the SPS.

Addressing Gambling Addiction with Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Asian Professional Counselling Association"

Learn how to use MiCBT techniques to address addictions crises and train the brain to regulate emotions and prevent relapse. This is a unique opportunity to learn with the principal developer of MiCBT.

Description of the Workshop

Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) is a sophisticated integration of mindfulness core principles and traditional CBT. In the services where MiCBT is regularly implemented, complex clients with multiple and chronic difficulties experience rapid and sustained improvement in most life domains.

The aim of this professional workshop is to provide a rationale for the use of MiCBT in problem gambling clients and demonstrate effective skills to facilitate the treatment of comorbid acute and chronic conditions.

Dates: 12, 13, 14 September 2009
Time: 9 am-5 pm (Please arrive at 8.30 am for registration on first day.)

IASSID Singapore 2009

We would like to invite you to the 2nd IASSID Asia Pacific Conference. The conference will be held at Singapore, 24 to 27 June 2009, at the Furama Riverfront Hotel. The conference theme is: "Creating possibilities for an inclusive society" The conference details and the abstract submission system are now
on-line: www.iassid.org Abstracts need to be submitted by the end of November 2008. Individual papers, symposia, workshops and posters are all welcome. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed and those accepted for the conference will be published in the Journal of Policy & Practice in Intellectual Disabilities. The on-line registration system will soon be on-line. There are a number of organisations partnering with IASSID to make this a significant event on the international scientific calender. These include the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC), the Asia Pacific Down Syndrom Federation and the Australian Association of Doctors in Developmental Disability Medicine.
There are also many regional and local service providers working together, as part of our efforts to ensure that the conference provides a mechanism to promote 'research to practice' and that practice issues inform and influence the research agenda of the scientific community. As part of our efforts to promote dialogue between researchers, practitioners and people with disability, the conference will include the inaugural meeting of the Asian Research to Practice Roundtable.

This event will take place across the 4 days of the conference; bringing together scientists, practitioners and people with disability to establish and implement a research to practice agenda for the region. The IASSID Academy on Education, Teaching & Research will host accredited workshops prior to and following the conference. The workshops will take place at Singapore and in neighbouring countries.

If you are interested in hosting such a workshop, you can contact the Academy Chair, Professor Roy Brown for details and to discuss your proposal: roybrown@telus.net See the attached information sheet for more details of the conference.
Please feel free to circulate this information among your colleagues and networks and to include details in your various organisational newsletters, etc. We hope to see you at Singapore.

Kind regards,
Dr Keith McVilly & Professor Lisa Wang, IASSID Conference Co-ordination Committee Dr Balbir Singh, Chair of the Local Organising Committee Professor Libby Cohen and Dr Kenneth Poon, Co-Chairs of the Scientific Programme Committee
